Zanzibar works so well at the end of a safari precisely because it asks for nothing. There's no game drive to wake up for, no packing list to reassemble each morning, just a warm ocean and a slower version of the same East African light you've been watching all week from a vehicle window.
Stone Town deserves at least a day on its own terms before the beach takes over. Its coral-stone alleys, carved doors, and working spice markets are best explored with a local guide who can explain what you're smelling as much as what you're seeing, and a sunset dhow cruise off the harbor is a good, easy way to close it out.
From there, we usually route travelers north to the quieter beaches around Nungwi and Kendwa, where the tides stay swimmable and the pace drops further still. It's the right kind of ending to a trip that started with 5 a.m. alarms in the bush.
